THE DIFFERENT BETWEEN EXTROVERT AND INTROVERT STUDENTS’ LISTENING ACHIEVEMENT AT ENGLISH DEPARTMENT
Many people are aware of the importance of learning English in this global era because English become an international language. Without English in global era it is same as lost in competition. English as communication has four basic language skill such as Listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The students are required to master these four skills, one of them is Listening. Listening is considered to be a major ability that must be mastered. How well people listen affects the quality of their relationships with other people (Hidayat, 2013:21). There are many things that affect the performance of students in learning, one of them is personality. Personality consists of two different types, extroversion and introversion. These two personality factors becomes the important aspect that affect student achievements especially in listening.
Extroverts are people who want more stimulation from elsewhere in than introverts to feel powerful, amaze, excited, and happy. Extroverts are polar opposites of introverts. But how they react emotionally to stimulation is the big difference in introverts and extroverts. (Muharrami, Setiyadi, Hasan, 2013). Says that “The Score of the pretest of the introvert group was 65. while the extrovert was 72. Then, the postest of introvert group was 64. While the extrovert was 69”. It showed that there is a difference between the introvert and extrovert student personality in listening achievement and the extrovert students have better achievement in listening because extrovert are people who want more stimulation that will be active, powerful, amaze, excited, and happy in the classroom.
On the other hand,. Introverts are people who are inside their minds and thinkers, not who speak them out; who are focused on deep and not on superficiality; who are less emotional and who have only a few personal data shared; who prefer to write to talk; who sometimes are "forgotten by people," who have to suspend energy and coherence to reactivate on their own (J.B. Kahnweiler, 2013). Another researcher, (Anggraini, 2011). The researcher take a sample of class listening that had the nearly equal number of extrovert and introvert students. Based on the result, the mean score of extrovert students was 76.46 and the Mean score of introvert students was 81.67. From the result the researcher conclude that there is no significant difference between extrovert and introvert students in learning because there is only a slight difference in their score, it can't be said that extrovert is better than introvert only because of that score. Introvert people feel powerful, amaze, excited, and happy when they are in quieter environments.
In conclusion, both of that personalities have its own strength and weakness it does not guarantee that an introverted person cannot have a better value than an extrovert student, vice versa. Every human being has different and unique personality types. This inequality is a characteristic of each individual that is displayed in everyday life, namely in the way of decision making, verbal and non verbal behavior, dealing with problems, social interactions, learning methods, and so forth. It can be analyzed in its context by understanding each difference. Between Introverted and extroverted, There is no best personality because they complement each other. Both are equals to each other and These two personality factors becomes the important aspect that affect student achievements.
